After weeks of heavy rain, Coyote Creek overflowed on February 21, 2017, drowning the surrounding working class communities in sewage-filled water. Without warning from the government, residents looked outside their houses to find entire blocks under feet of water. In all, hundreds of families lost their homes and possessions to the floodwaters. Investigations after the flood have shown that the City of San Jose and Valley Water were negligent and could have prevented the flooding that occurred in working class neighborhoods in San Jose.
